Summer Reading Program: A Healthy Activity for Kids that Won't Cost You a Dime

By energy_linguist, June 14, 2010, Family & Kids

Summer reading programsChances are your local public library offers free summer reading programs. Chances are that signing your children up for summer reading programs will provide healthy and education entertainment without costing you a penny. Chances are this would rock.

For example, registration for Summer Reading is for Everyone at the Harris County Public Library begins June 4  in Houston, with three separate programs for varying age ranges. Some of the highlights include recommended readings, storytime and other interactive events.

Registration is generally free of charge for library members, and the reading programs are often created in cohorts with local schools to ensure children are on schedule for lesson plans implemented the following school year.

While summer reading may not have the same appeal as trips to the local pool, it’s still a great activity for hot days where children are relegated indoors and unsure of how to entertain themselves. Not to mention, it’s a great alternative for you to provide healthy entertainment for your children without breaking your budget.

Reading FTW!
