College students: Time Management

As a first year graduate student, attending school full time, I have found myself a bit lost and not sure how to manage my time. I was working Monday through Friday, eight hours a day, like most people but now as I mentioned previously my new full time job is school. With about 6 classes and major reading to get done, I need to figure out a schedule in which I have time to study, sleep and have somewhat of a social life.

I started this year off with purchasing an agenda before the semester started. I jot down EVERYTHING in that agenda, appointments, homework, birthdays, etc. Schedule time to relax and breathe as well as allow for flexibility.

Plan ahead. Did I mention my middle name is “Procrastinator”? Yes I am guilty. BUT I told myself that this behavior was unacceptable in grad school. So, I am currently in the process of trying to get things accomplished before the day it’s due. I know that with my handy agenda,  determination, and my fear of stress piling up, I will be able to ace this.

When the week is over, I even plan out the things I do for fun. In my agenda, I write out what time I will be free from school, for example, Friday at 4PM. I will then go ahead and plan something fun and enjoyable so that exam week is not all that bad for me and I have something to look forward to.
