Financial stress has been found to lead to health related problems and problems with personal relationships. As soon as your body begins to feel stressed it tries to fight it off but sometimes overtakes the body with disease and bad symptoms. So how can we try to diminish stressors in our life?

  • Learn to separate your wants from your needs. Sure, we would all love to have latest phone or hippest clothes on the market, but is it something we NEED or WANT? Being able to separate these things also allows us to prioritize the things in our life.
  • Another thing one can do is not give money power. If you can learn that money isn’t everything, we can decrease our stress level.
  • Seeking advice is a good way to lower our stress level. Someone, somewhere has experienced financial stress and will help you find options in order to reduce this problem.

The next step is to get rid of bad debt. Being a recent loan borrower for graduate school, I was nervous to take out loans but this is good debt that will help me build credit. Charging everything to your credit card and continuing to make minimal payments will only contribute to bad debt causing even more stress. Lastly, set a budget to keep you aware of your spending and help you out in the long road because you will know exactly what you are doing with your money and will not be stressed with your spending.
