Now that it’s summer break, most parents are in need of activities to keep their children busy. However, with sports camps, church camps, etc. the activities can really start to add up financially. So to save you money this summer, here are some activities around town that are fun for the kids and best of all FREE.
Houston
- Free tennis lessons – Brought to you by Houston Parks and Recreation and the Houston Tennis Association, Inc.-NJTL, children can now participate in the FREE Youth Tennis Program. It is offered at 36 public park sites throughout the year and classes are for ages 4-18 years. Classes will meet 4 times per week and equipment is available for use during class. Pre-registration is not necessary.
- Water Spraygrounds – Stay cool this summer at any one of Houston’s 17 water spraygrounds. No need to know how to swim with these parks, you can let your kids run wild and enjoy water that squirts, sprays, mists and shoots out.
- City of Houston Pools – These 38 pools are FREE to the public. The 2011 Summer Swim Season runs from May 28, 2011 – August 12, 2011. Pool hours are 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. All pools are closed on Mondays for regular maintenance.
Dallas
- Send a Kid to Camp – This is a FREE, drop-in, summer recreational program for kids ages 6-15, conducted Monday through Friday, June 13 through July 29 2011, at camp sites throughout the city. Activities include sports, crafts, games, nature studies, life skills development, enrichment programs and field trips.
- Water Spraygrounds – Click and see the list of FREE Dallas water sprayground locations and hours of operations.
- City of Dallas Swimming Pools – Beat the heat and swim for FREE in any of these Dallas City pools. If you’re child isn’t comfortable in the water, for $30 you can enroll them in swim lessons where they’ll get 8, 30-45 minute lessons (length of time depends on classes) at either of these pools. Call a pool near you for more information.
