Simple Ways to Save Money

Believe it or not, saving money can be easy. And best of all you don’t have to do drastic things to start seeing a difference. Here are 5 simple ways to start seeing savings today.
- Sign up for free customer rewards. Any store that offers a free customer rewards program, sign up for it (just be sure that it is free)! By enrolling in those programs, you can receive coupons and discounts throughout the year. If you don’t want to be bombarded by emails then sign up for a separate email address just for those programs.
- Follow the 30 day rule. Yes that dress is fabulous, but do you really need that pricey dress just because it’s cute? Even though we can skillfully justify that we NEED that dress, the rule is to wait 30 days and then ask yourself if you still need it. Most of the time you’ll find the urge is gone and money is saved.
- Host a house party. Having people over is almost always much cheaper than going out. If you’re having people over for dinner, have each person bring an appetizer, side or dessert, which will be sure to save money but keep the fun.
- If something’s broke, try to fix it first. My husband is definitely not a handy man, but with the help of some online videos, he’s actually been able to fix a number of items around the house. This has resulted in saving a good chunk of change. Before contacting a handy man, try searching for your problem either on Youtube or Google and chances are there is a video that will give you step-by-step directions on how to fix it yourself.
- Be aware of all your employment benefits. Take the time and sit down with your HR person to discuss all the benefits. Just this week my husband found that his employer reimburses on personal wellness i.e. gym memberships, which will save us money each month! So don’t miss out on potential opportunities like gym memberships, employee matching, even tickets to sporting events.
