Trips are an essential part of summer for many families. However, as gas prices increase, it may make family trips not as much of an option. So with that in mind, here are some tips on how to save money and make your vacation last longer.

Buy in bundles. If you package your trips with airfare, hotel and transportation, you can save hundreds of dollars. Also, be sure to research your trip on different discount sites like expedia.com to make sure you are getting the best deal.

Ditch the Hotel. Staying in a hotel is nice and accommodating; however, it can also be expensive. Opt to rent a condo, apartment or house instead. It’s not only cheaper but with access to a kitchen, you can save money on meals too.

Keep the currency. With the current state of the dollar, consider the exchange rate when you travel. For example, the US dollar to Euro ratio is 1:1.4; whereas, the dollar to peso is 1:.08. So, you will get more bang for your buck traveling to some where the currency is less than or equal to the US dollar.
