Make-It-Yourself Kids Halloween Costumes

Halloween is approaching! Does your child have his/her costume already? If not, here are some homemade Halloween costume ideas that are great alternatives to the expensive store bought ones. They are easy to make and can save you money.
Raining Cats and Dogs. This clever costume idea will be a hit in the neighborhood. Pair it with a raincoat and rain boots, preferably ones your child already owns. Items: child-size clear umbrella, 4 sheets black sticky felt, black poster board, white fabric pencil, gray thread, glue, a needle.

Twister. For the energetic child, what better choice than a tornado?
Items: Hula hoop, 2 large adult-size dark grey t-shirts, fabric glue, 10 yards black tulle, stapler, twigs, dark gray gloves (optional).

Items: oversize brown sweatshirt, fabric glue, 1/2 yard brown ribbon, 1 yard light-brown felt, Brown marabou boa, 1 yard dark-brown felt, 2 oversize yellow buttons, 2 black buttons, 2 copper scouring pads, Black rubber glove, Cotton balls.

Corn on the Cob. This garden variety starts with an oversized sweatshirt with no sewing needed.
Items: hot glue or fabric glue, scissors, tape measure, green sweatshirt, 3 egg-carton bottoms, yellow paint, 1 yard of green felt, green pipe cleaners and raffia.

Items: scissors, foam cushion inserts (to cut two 18×2 inch squares), tan or brown felt, hot-glue gun, red can of spray paint, 24 in length mustard-yellow cord (or rickrack), 3 pairs green garden gloves and 2.5 yards wide ribbon.
